The software package was developed using the Blackberry QNX software as part of the strategic partnership between the two companies to further promote autonomous and networked driving. The development environment extends Renesas’ range of software for automotive infotainment applications based on the R-Car family. This enables developers to quickly create modern cockpit systems and improve user-friendliness.

The new development environment is now available from Renesas and Blackberry. It offers the high reliability required for integrated cockpit systems as well as a selection of graphics functions. The package is based on the Renesas R-Car family and includes the BlackBerry QNX software development platform 7.0 as well as the QNX Hypervisor 2.0 virtualization software. It also provides access to a wide range of BlackBerry software products that enable developers to use multimedia and HMI-related software in the development of graphical cockpit systems.

The development environment leverages the virtualization capabilities of the Renesas R-Car building blocks to enable the development of digital cockpit systems with functional safety: by isolating functions such as clustering and navigation, it ensures that a failure in one area does not affect another. The QNX Hypervisor 2.0 allows different guest operating systems, such as Android and Linux, to run independently in an R-Car device.
